Moto Edge 40: A Mid-range Beast with a Lot to Offer

Moto Edge 40 is the newest smartphone from Motorola that comes with a lot of features at a reasonable price. The phone was announced in India on May 23, 2023 and will go on sale on Flipkart and Motorola’s official website from May 30, 2023. The phone has three color options – Eclipse Black, Nebula Green and Lunar Blue – and has one variant with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. The phone costs Rs 29,999 and has some special offers and discounts for online buyers.

Design and Display:

Moto Edge 40 has a stylish and elegant design with a 3D curved display, a bezel-less design, a vegan leather option and a sandblasted metal frame. The phone is also IP68 rated, which means it can resist dust and water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. The phone has a 6.55-inch P-OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 20:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 402 ppi. The display supports 144 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, 1200 nits peak brightness and an under-display fingerprint sensor.

Performance and Battery:

Moto Edge 40 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset, which is a 6 nm octa-core processor with four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. The phone also has a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU for graphics performance. The phone runs on Android 13 operating system with Motorola’s customizations and features. The phone has a 4400 mAh battery that supports 68 W wired charging and 15 W wireless charging. The phone can be charged fully in about an hour with the wired charger and can last up to 30 hours of continuous usage.

Moto Edge 40 has a dual rear camera setup that consists of a 50 MP primary camera with f/1.4 aperture, multi-directional PDAF, OIS and a dual-LED flash, and a 13 MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture, AF and a 120-degree field of view. The rear cameras can record videos in 4K resolution at 30 fps, 1080p resolution at 30/60/120 fps, or 720p resolution at 960 fps with HDR10 and gyro-EIS support. The phone also has a single front-facing camera that is a 32 MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture and HDR support. The front camera can also record videos in 4K resolution at 30 fps or 1080p resolution at 30/120 fps.

Connectivity:

Moto Edge 40 supports various connectivity options such as dual SIM (Nano-SIM or eSIM), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS, NFC and USB Type-C port. The phone also supports Moto Ready For feature that allows users to connect the phone to an external monitor or TV for a desktop-like experience. The phone also supports ThinkShield and Moto Secure features that provide enhanced security and privacy for the users.

Moto Edge 40 Competitors:

Moto Edge 40 faces some stiff competition in the premium mid-range segment from various brands. Some of the notable competitors are:

Poco F5: This phone is priced at Rs 29,999 and offers a similar RAM and storage configuration as the Moto Edge 40. It has a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 5000 mAh battery with 67 W fast charging. However, it has a different processor – the Snapdragon 7+ Gen2, which claims to offer flagship-level performance. It has a quad rear camera setup with a 64 MP main camera with .

Samsung Galaxy A54: This phone is more affordable than the Moto Edge 40 and offers a microSD slot and four years of OS updates. However, it has a weaker processor, a lower refresh rate display, a slower charging speed and a less water-resistant design.

Google Pixel 7a: This phone is slightly more affordable than the Moto Edge 40 and offers a more powerful processor, a better camera quality and a longer software support. However, it has a smaller and dimmer display, a lower refresh rate, a smaller battery and no wireless charging.

Nothing Phone (1): This phone is also more affordable than the Moto Edge 40 and offers a better battery life and an ultra-wide camera. However, it has a slower charging speed, a lower water resistance rating, a weaker selfie camera and no wireless charging.

Xiaomi 13 Lite: This phone is much more affordable than the Moto Edge 40 and offers a similar display size and resolution. However, it has a single speaker, an older Android version, a lower water resistance rating, a weaker performance and a shorter battery life.
